| Acne Treatment
Acne is caused by sticky cells clogging pores, over production of oil from the sebaceous glands, and bacteria that live in the pores. We use skin care products, esthetician treatments, prescription medicines, lasers and light sources (BluLight and IPL), and photodynamic therapy to treat acne in both teenagers and adults.
Rosacea Treatment
Rosacea is a disorder of the face in middle-aged and older persons, characterized by redness and tiny red vessels with or without an acne component. It may also be accompanied by increased growth of the soft tissues of the nose known as rhinophyma. Rosacea is never cured, however can it be controlled with skin care products, lasers and light sources, and medicines.
Mole Removal
Moles are pigmented, flat or raised, lesions that can appear any place on the body. Moles that do not have any features of a cancer are removed using a combination of laser and surgical excision.
Skin Pigmentation
Brown pigmentation can be caused by any injury to the skin. The sun is the most common culprit in causing pigmentation such as freckles and dark spots. Pigmentation can be treated with skin care products, microdermabrasion, prescription medications, peels and laser treatments. Photodynamic therapy can also help improve pigmentation problems.
Scars
Although scars are very difficult to totally erase, they can be treated with a variety of techniques so they are not as noticeable. Scars are treated with a laser to remove their color and smooth their texture and then by surgery to make them smaller and finer.
Cysts
Epidermoid cysts are slow-growing lumps that are associated with a pore. Often a yellow, semisolid substance can be expressed from the pore. They occur most commonly on the scalp, face, neck, and back. Once they have been infected and the infection treated, the cyst needs to be surgically removed.
Melasma
Melasma is brown pigmentation that occurs in a pattern that is usually symmetrical and involves the forehead, cheeks, temples, and upper lip. It occurs in sun-exposed areas and is exacerbated by light. It may be associated with pregnancy or ingestion of oral contraceptives. Women are usually affected, but melasma is occasionally seen in males. Melasma is very difficult to treat but improvement can be obtained with skin care products and prescription medications.
Actinic Keratosis
These are the most common skin precancerous lesions among whites. They are also known as solar keratosis or senile keratosis. They effect nearly 100% of the elderly white population, and may be found in otherwise normal light complected people in their teens and twenties who have received lots of sun exposure. In the past these lesions were treated with 5-Fluorouracil (5-FU) which was messy and uncomfortable. Now we use photodynamic therapy with levulinic acid resulting in little discomfort and down time and successfully removing these premalignant growths.
